2009
- In November, Raiffeisenbank sponsored the SAMU Social Moscow Foundation. The Foundation provides assistance to homeless children and adolescents on the streets of Moscow. These children are constantly exposed to the dangers of big city streets, which is an alarming phenomenon that exists throughout the world. The mission of the Foundation is to help deprived people who are in need. The Foundation trains ‘social rescuers’ out of professionals and volunteers. All of them work towards a common goal — to help people rejected by society, to provide accommodation for them, to give them hope, to create the conditions for their social integration. The Foundation cooperates with local institutions — welfare institutions, hospitals, asylums, the authorities, NGOs and simple people of goodwill.
- An autumn charitable mini-football tournament was held at the Dynamo football stadium on November 8 to raise funds for the benefit of Russian children with Down’s syndrome. The tournament was organised by Downside Up, a foundation which supports children with Down’s syndrome in Russia. Raiffeisenbank’s corporate football team took part in the match and won the main prize of the tournament — the challenge Cup. All funds raised at the tournament will be used to support children with this disease.
- In October, Raiffeisenbank gave 5 Adelie costumes to severely sick children suffering from cerebral palsy, as part of the Special Cars to Special Children motor marathon. 130 motley-coloured mini cars belonging to private car owners participating in the MINIpeopLå motor club gave the children a ride around Moscow. These costumes are based on active, directed action on the affected motor cortical centres to restore their impaired functions, the breakdown of the existing movement disorders and their replacement with normalised ones. This enables efficient recovery to occur and facilitates the elimination of the child’s impaired motor function as quickly as is possible.
- In September, Raiffeisenbank funded the maintenance of an art studio for disabled children. The studio was established by Prospects, a St. Petersburg-based Charitable NGO, and operates in three fields: the art studio where young people paint pictures; the theatre studio that helps to create the conditions for the actualisation of the creative abilities of the children using theatrical art. Regular musical classes for disabled children were also arranged, both in groups and on an individual basis. Guided by a teacher, the children familiarise themselves with different musical instruments and learn to play some of them. Professional teachers and psychologists work with the children who visit the studio. It is important to us that every single person, including those with numerous developmental disorders, are able to express himself or herself as a personality.
- In August. The Red Square charitable bicycle race for the benefit of Russian children with Down’s syndrome finished at the Vassilievsky Slope of the Red Square on August 30, 2009, as part of the Year of Equal Opportunities. The Centre provides free-of-charge psychological and pedagogical assistance to families with children suffering from Down’s syndrome. At present, some 1,200 families from Moscow and 80 regions of Russia and the CIS receive care at the Centre. 170 people, including bicycle racing professionals and amateurs, including Raiffeisenbank’s team, raised money for this charity: they not only raced 100 km in the Moscow Region but also contributed to the total of RUB 6 million to early care programmes for children with Down’s Syndrome. The event was supported by the Committee of Public Relations of Moscow, the Moscow Department for Social Protection and the Cycling Federation of Russia.
