On March 29, a charity conference under the slogan «It Is Time to Do Good» was held with the support of Raiffeisenbank. The conference was dedicated to Doctor Gaaz (Friedrich Joseph Haass) as well as to a special TV project — a series of TV programs about people who do charitable works in modern-day Russia.
Representatives of Russia's and Moscow's governments as well as international and religious organizations, the mass media, public figures and scholars took part in the event.
«Raiffeisenbank is actively developing social responsibility campaigns, including those in the field of charity. Initiatives such as "It Is Time to Do Good" are undoubtedly worthy of our support, and we are the sponsoring organization for this event for the second time in a row», said the CEO of Raiffeisenbank, Johann Jonach.
The physician and philanthropist Friedrich Joseph Haass (Fyodor Petrovich Gaaz as Russians called him) (1780-1853) is known as the 'holy doctor'. From 1829 he worked in Moscow, became a member of the Moscow prison committee and remained the chief physician of Moscow's prisons for life.
Fyodor Gaaz dedicated his life to the alleviation of the suffering of prisoners and exiles. Twenty thousand citizens of Moscow followed him to his grave. The motto carved out in the gravestone at the Vvedenskoye Cemetery, where Fyodor Petrovich Gaaz was buried, was followed by him all of his life and reads: «It Is Time to Do Good!»
